Bling it on Baby

I just finished a few non-exclusive projects and thought that I'd share them along with a few brief tutorials on some of the techniques. The first project, Ahoy There Me Hearties was done using pictures from Tiffany, an IBSS member. She won a contest and the prize was to have me scrap some of her pictures. I've never scrapped pictures of anyone else so this was a little nervousing for me. (Yes that is a word in my special world.) I think that it turned out well and hopefully she'll like it!

The chipboard title and the grungeboard were done using the same technique and I love the look. This is what I did.
1. Paint the chipboard/grungeboard with red acrylic
2. When dry, sand using fine-grit sandpaper. This will take off some of the top layer of paint and expose some of the underlying chipboard.
3. Ink using Ranger black soot and a chunk of craft foam. Dip your craft foam into the ink pad and use that to distribute the ink.

Cardstock: Bazzil
Pattern paper: Luxe
Stickers: foil stickers from Big Lots; Fontwerks red and white square
Ink: Ranger black soot
Buttons: Paper Studio
Stickers:
Ribbon: unknown black ric-rack; Jenni Bowlin striped
Rub-ons: Luxe
Pens: zig

Other: KI Memories paper clip and tiny red letters; thread and sewing machine; Ranger grungeboard, acrylic paint; Basic Grey chipboard letters; Theresa Collins journal block

The second layout that I did was using pictures of Z and her beautiful self-done hair style. I was deeply influenced by Bethan Ash, a Welsh quilt artist. I was introduced to her work in Mary Engelbreit's June/July issue of Home Companion. I found myself fascinated with her layers and shapes. I wanted to do a layout with the same idea. Luckily, Luxe has the perfect pattern paper for such an undertaking. Can I just tell you how much I love their stuff?

And here is my version: Bling It On Baby. It's pretty wild, but I think that it is interesting. The background paper is white with swashes of black. I sewed using a zig-zag stitch and black thread on the black swashes just to give them texture.

I filled in the colored gaps using Hambly transparencies and the black and white gaps are my own doodles. I glued down the Hambly using glossy accents and I am quite pleased with the way the adhesive dried clear. The circles of pink are made with a ribbon (unknown manufacturer) that has the texture of a sparkly pipecleaner, but lacks the internal wire. I adhered the ribbon using staples. I made the title using Maya Road chipboard letters and Making Memories self-adhering sparkle paper. To give the title more umph, I inked the edges using Black Soot ink and traced the letters (once glued to the paper) using my black pen. This helped them to stand out more on the crazy background. Before I did that, the title was lost in the jungle.

Journaling: Zoey just loves putting “hair pieces” in her hair and doing her own fashionable do’s. For a few days, she got a tad carried away and put every single clip and barrette she could find in her hair. This ended when I had her pick them all up afterwards. 4.08

Oh wow, interesting is the word indeed, I find this (the latter) layout quite intriguing! Very bold work and you did a great job being inspired by the quilts!

I'm adding "nervousing" to my vocab along with "easy peasy".. :)

Love the bling!

So, after our phone conversation (which was wonderful by the way!), my brain has been whirring away like crazy. I posted some of my thoughts on my blog...give me some feedback, pretty please! Thanks :)
