I recently saw an ad for some cool collage sheets in one of my favorite mags, Cloth Paper Scissors, and went to the website and fell into a Bonanza of creativity! Wow. I am so excited by this site. ARTchix. Here are a few of my favorite things so far. If these don't inspire you to sit down and create, I don't know what will. And she had a bit of a challenge that I thought I'd copy and put here because I'm totally going to do this. I've just been in love with circles and dots lately and this will be such a fun exercise. Maybe I'll even incorporate this into a scrapbook page? I don't know the possibilities are endless. (Again, to give Helga credit, I just copied and pasted here.)
And a closeup photo to show you the stamps that I used to fancy up my plain pink paper. To make this I just freehanded the owl, cut it out, glued it on the front of the journal, stamped the owl's face using Tim Holtz stamps and pink ink, traced around and doodled using a black paint pen (Sharpie) and stamped using some alpha stamps I bought ages ago. I love the flower eyes. Who can resist an owl with flowers? I can only think of one person whose initials are K.P. but that is all the information I can divulge. Hope you have a very creative and fun day!
"What to do:
* Make a grid filled with circles and dots. Draw a grid on a piece of watercolor paper. Experiment with circles and dots by drawing, painting, cutting or punching circles out of paper bits and images, stamping, etc. Think about circles as patterns and focal points, play and have fun. (I’ve done this one already, it’s no stress, playtime! - see my grid of polka dots on page 3).
* Make a collage with circles/ dots and words. Cut out interesting, descriptive words and phrases from old books. Close your eyes and select 3 words or phrases. Pick your favorite 1. Then make a small collage and incorporate this word or phrase into your collage. To make it easy, find a card, postcard or tiny canvas that you have laying around to use as the base of your collage. PLUS, incorporate a circle or circles/ dots into your collage (refer to your grid above for inspiration).
* Make a collage with circles/ dots and color. Pull out a set of Crayola crayons, watercolor crayons, pencils or a set of paints (your choice). Close your eyes and select 3 colors. Pick your favorite 1 and make a collage with that color. Make it a monochromatic collage or add this color's complimentary color (your choice). Same as above, find anything that you have laying around to use as the base of your collage. PLUS, include a circle or circles/ dots in your collage (again refer to your grid above for inspiration).* Treat yourself! If you do all 3 of these exercises, buy yourself something round or an item that has circles. Think of a donut, circular earrings, dotted paper, etc. "

And now, another little bit of inspiration from my little head. I recently learned how to book bind thanks to a video on the Paper Studio. It was such a fun and rewarding project that I just want to teach the world to do it. My mom is coming to visit in a few weeks (Can't wait!) and I'm totally going to show her how to do this. I used some prefabricated text blocks and precut casings so it wasn't so labor intensive. Here's my final product. It is an owl journal for a local swap. I love how it turned out! Can't wait to give it away!
