Whimsical Abstract Experiments

Lately I've been very inspired by abstracts. I've been finding myself watching Youtube videos, dissecting gorgeous abstract paintings and reading every book on abstracts I can find. After months of research, I decided that it was high time I actually attempted an abstract painting.

Elyssa needed a little something for her room, so my color scheme became bright rainbow colors. Bright yellow, red, orange, and aqua.

When I began this painting, I didn't have anything in mind. I simply went where my muse took me. I don't normally work this intuitively, but I found it to be liberating, exciting and very relaxing. The time flew by as I dabbled, smudged and swept. I found myself using my fingers as well as baby wipes to apply the paint in soft strokes. I wanted everything to be soft and blended and baby wipes were perfect for this effect.

I used stencils, Shimmerz sprays and my fine-point Sharpie to add doodles.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results. Just so you have an idea of scale, the canvas is large and measures about 17x20.

I can't wait to start my next abstract!

xoxo

I love your art piece! It's fantastic. I would love to have it hanging in my craft room. I guess that means I'll have to buy a big canvas, and get to work with my paints! Thanks for sharing.
