I Can't Stop Talking About...

Last week, while my parents and littlest brother and sister were in town, we went to the Desert Botanical Museum in Phoenix. I loved every second of it from the butterfly garden to the blooming cactus and the Chihuly glass sculptures, it was simply spectacular.

When C saw this sculpture, he called it The Crazy Tree. Yeah, it is. But in a really cool way.

All those crazy worms or balloons (again C's vocabulary) are blown glass.

See what I mean?

How cool is that? We bought a membership so now we can go everyday for a year. I tell you, I'm so psyched about it that I read the book of museum events all night. I talked about all the fun stuff going on there with T for hours. ( He loved every moment.) I brought it up again at breakfast this morning and got the kids all excited about going on Flashlight Tours, Hayrides and seeing the sculptures. Here's how the conversation went this morning.

Me: Ok, guys, so I've been reading about the Desert Museum...
Cam: Which one is that?
Me: You know the one with the crazy tree..
Cam: Oh yeah.
Todd: You didn't stop reading that book all night.
Me: I know! I'm just too excited. Anyway, I've been reading about all the cool things we can do there...
Danika: When will Zo and I get to go?
Me: Next week when you have Spring Break we'll go.
Danika: Good.
Zoey: Yeah, because we didn't get to go with you because we were at school. (Sad face)
Me: (Sympathetic glance to Zo) Okay, so about what I've been reading...they have these flashlight tours that you go and carry a flashlight. (excited faces from the kids) and you walk around in the dark and see cool stuff like flowers that only come out at night, and lizards and mice and snakes.
Cam: Will the snakes bite us? (Zoey and Danika looking worried too)
Me: No, the snakes won't bite us. They are too small.
Cam: What if there is a big snake?
Me: They only have king snakes and they eat rattlesnakes so there aren't any snakes that will bite us. (I'm thinking that this logic might just be...ummm...logical. He clearly doesn't buy it.)
Cam: What if a snake bites me?
Todd: A snake will only bite you if you step on it or sneeze on it. Snakes are hypochondriacs. Just don't step or sneeze on one.
Danika: What does hypochondriacs mean?
Todd: It means they are scared of germs.
Danika: (Puzzled face) Oh.
Me: (rolling eyes and laughing)
Cam: What if I step on a snake?
Me: You won't step on a snake. You'll see it with your flashlight.
Cam: But what if I do?

And so on...we covered the snake topic for at least 15 minutes...and I never sufficiently soothed C's worried heart. But, we're still going. I'll just make sure no one has a cold when we do...

And sometimes I wonder why I have trouble completing a thought...hmmmm

As delightful as this place looks with its' blown glass sculptures and such, I too would have a worried look on my face when you talk about snakes. Even with a clean bill of health! Seriously, it looks like a lot of fun...Enjoy! LYTM!!!!!

That was such a funny post! :) I'm still chuckling over poor C's snake worries!

It look like it was a super cool place! The last time I went was on a date with Jeff back when we were only engaged folks (so, like 10 years ago) and that was long before the awesome Chihuly glass exhibit...hmmm, I may have to pick up a Culture Pass so that I can take the kids :)

P.S. Speaking of Spring Break, we need to check our schedules and find a time to get together (not counting our Tuesday evening Enrichment).

I'm with Cam. I don't do darkness and snakes....ok, I don't do daylight and snakes. If you need someone to supervise the kids who want to stay in the car, I offer my services :)
