New Hobby

Yesterday, I picked up a brand new hobby. I know, you are asking yourself how I could possibly add another hobby to my grocery list of current ones? And just before I have another baby too! I know. I know. It is pretty amazing. I astound even myself sometimes.

Assuming you are slightly curious, I will tell you what my new hobby is...

I

am

now

a

Black Widow

Hunter

and

Destroyer.

The pest control guy came yesterday afternoon because we had seen a few Black Widow spiders around the outside of the house. Having many small people living here, we had certain issues with the Black Widows also being present. However, we had NO IDEA the massive population that took up residence here. After the dude came, I went outside to check out his work and I found 7 spiders in various states of death on the porch. This made me curious. What about the drainage holes in our fence in back? Could there be some living there too? I checked out the area and sure enough there were webs over each hole. I grabbed some spray ant poison, slipped on my tennis shoes, grabbed a random stick and got to work. I sneaked up on those nasty ladies with the stealth of a panther. Ok, maybe not a panther, but certainly the stealth of an elephant. An elephant with funky hips and a bit of a limp. Maybe I would describe myself as a slightly lame elephanther.

I sprayed each hole, forcing the Nasty Lady out onto the wall, then smooshed her with my shoe. This was done with the grace of a kung fu master. A blind observer, from a distance, might have mistaken me for Jackie Chan. I did this until I ran out of ant spray. Then I picked up the hose. The hose method, although more environmentally sound, was less effective (around 76% versus the spray method that was 100% effective.) I continued until each hole was clear. The score was Me: 24 (plus the 7 found on the patio) for a grand total of 31. Nasty Lady:0 I reentered the house proud of my major accomplishments and raised my arms in victory. I also did a bit of a touchdown dance that impressed all the kids to no end. I think that even T was impressed. I certainly was.

This morning, I inspected my territory again and found another 6 dead spiders. So I am at 37 spiders. Pretty impressive for 1.5 days of my new hobby, I'd say.

So, I'm starting up a Black Widow Hunter and Destroyer club (BWHD for short). We can chart our progress in this new and exciting hobby. In a few years, it will probably become one of the most popular pasttimes in the world. I'm currently working on some decal designs and bumper stickers. I'll keep you posted.
