Since staying up until midnight isn't my idea of fun. (I'm more of a morning person.) And the kids can't make it until that late, we decided to count down the New Year in Grytviken, the capital of South Georgia. In case you are Grytviken-ignorant, (and there are only 19 people who aren't,) South Georgia consists of a collection of islands (population 19) south of Argentina. As we counted down at 8 PM our time, I pictured those scientists, museum staff, postman and British government officers counting down in the cold and I felt a little connection. I hope that they had a wonderful year, just like me.
This has been a year of great personal growth. I feel that I've really improved as a woman, wife, mother and artist and I'm proud of that. Of course, I still have a long way to go, but it is nice to just celebrate those small steps sometimes.
So Happy New Year to all of you! And especially to Grytviken. May this year bring you much happiness and prosperity. And when you reflect on the dying year, may you do so in a positive light, focusing on those small steps that, in the long run, lead to great destinations.

This is such a great idea! We don't stay up either and we haven't been doing anything to celebrate. I love the idea of an early countdown!
I'm with you. I'm not a night person, I'm definitely a morning person. It's all I can do to keep my eyes open until midnight and for some reason I feel some obligation to do so. Probably because it's my husbands birthday and I feel like in honor of him I should stay up...although he's always has to work all night on New Years (he's a police officer). I may have to copy you, celebrate early with the kids, call my husband to wish him a Happy Birthday and hit the sack!
P.S. That anonymous comment was from me! I took your suggestion for posting anonymous and it worked. I still plan to figure out why it doesn't let me log in anymore though.
